My First Hunt

Well I shot my first buck. Here is my story. I wish John was here to put it down,(he is a professional storyteller!). Our plan was to get up around 4:30 and be on our way up the canyon by 5 or 5:30, but when the baby woke up at 3:30 and didn't get back to sleep till 4:00 I wasn't about to get up! So I made john quit bugging me til about 5:00. We still had to get lunch, my guns(John wouldn't let me just take one)and the baby stuff. We were running late to say the least.
SO we are flying up the canyon, I'm getting car sick, we reach about to where we are going and the sun is coming over the mountain I make John stop so I can snap a quick shot (it was to pretty to pass up). We finally reach our destination an hour and a half late(8:00 ish)! John hops out of the truck to talk to his dad and gets his bino's out to scan some hillsides. He came up to help with the baby, thanks Mike! John looked over the first side then the next where he thought the deer should have been, and nothing, he turns around and scans the last side and about 5 miles( maybe 1) away he spots some deer. So he tells me get your gun we are going. I grab the gun tell Mike the baby's in the truck asleep and we were off!
I didn't know if any of you have ever hinted with a Barclay but their legs grow four feet long and they become mountain goats! That is how I felt at least. John was way good to hike slow and make sure I was doing alright. Anyway at this point i still can't tell these deer from bushes. So halfway up the hill I make John stop and really SHOW me the deer before I hike any further. There they were(dang, I'm too lazy for this). We finish the hike not to mention a pit stop I HAD to make. The deer were just above us through some Aspen trees. We belly crawled over the top of that hill then set up my cheater bi pod up I layed down to shoot, but there wasn't a clear shot that way. We readjust so I sit on my bum take a breath and bang! the deer drops dead in it's tracks, or is John's most excited voice I've ever herd " you got him , you dropped him like a ton of sh**" He almost made us fall back down the hill the way he hugged me.
Well the deer didn't die that shot but I did shoot him right through his back, so he was paralyzed(i thought it was super sad) and rolling down the hill slowly to us, as we hike up to him. I did a quick finish shot through his heart and lungs, John cleaned him (I did help hold him, but John is just really good at it), and headed back to Mike and the baby! John drug this deer like it was an empty sack, I almost had to run down the mountain to keep up.
So all in all I made made a 332 yard shot, John tells me that is good, really it wasn't hard I was sitting, and had a good scope. Dropped a little 3X3 1/16( it has a crazy little thing off the back of one side) Got my husband to clean and drag my deer and got back to the truck by 9:00. Just in time to feed the baby, Ha Ha.
It was super fun and I'll go again next year. Hopefully I didn't leave anything out. Big thanks to my Eagle Eye husband who did everything but shoot the deer for me, and Grandpa Mike for watching Kaydence!!!!!

Lucky, I didn't even get a shot at one this year. Besides, I would likely have missed from that kind of distance.
